Privacy policy

Golden Ratio ("GR", "we", "us", or "our") operates an online trading education platform that provides members with access to trading strategies, educator-led video courses, a live community feed, and an affiliate programme. This Privacy Policy explains what personal information we collect, why we collect it, how we use it, and what rights you have in relation to it. By registering for or using the Platform, you agree to the practices described in this Policy.

  1. Information We Collect

    1. Account registration data — When you create an account we collect your first name, last name, email address, username, and a hashed version of your password. We never store your password in plain text.
    2. Profile information — You may optionally provide a profile photo (avatar), a display bio, and other details visible to other community members.
    3. Payment and subscription data — When you upgrade to a paid membership we collect billing details through our third-party payment processor. We do not store full card numbers or banking credentials on our servers; only a transaction reference and subscription status are retained.
    4. Usage and activity data — We log the courses you enrol in, lessons you complete, videos you watch, posts you interact with (likes, views), and features you access. This data drives your progress tracking and personalised recommendations.
    5. Affiliate programme data — If you participate in the affiliate programme (available to eligible paid members), we collect referral link activity, click counts, and commission-qualifying conversions linked to your account.
    6. Technical data — We automatically collect your IP address, browser type, operating system, referring URLs, and session timestamps for security logging and platform analytics.
    7. Communications — If you contact our support team, we retain those messages to resolve your enquiry and improve our service.

  2. How We Use Your Information

    1. To provide the Platform — Authenticate your account, display your progress, unlock content appropriate to your membership tier, and deliver courses and trading strategy materials from our educators.
    2. Membership gating — Determine which content you may access. Free (community) members may view selected starter lessons and the community feed. Full course libraries, advanced trading strategies, educator video catalogues, and the affiliate programme are available to paid members only.
    3. Payments and billing — Process subscription payments, issue receipts, and manage renewals or cancellations via our payment processor.
    4. Affiliate programme — Track referral activity, calculate commissions, and distribute earnings to eligible affiliate members.
    5. Communication — Send account-related emails (registration confirmation, password reset, billing receipts). With your consent, we may also send educational newsletters or promotional offers; you may opt out at any time.
    6. Safety and security — Detect and prevent fraudulent activity, unauthorised account access, and abuse of the Platform.
    7. Platform improvement — Analyse aggregated usage patterns to improve course content, site performance, and user experience. Individual users are not identified in analytical reports.

  3. Legal Basis for Processing

    1. Contract performance — Processing necessary to create your account and provide the services you signed up for.
    2. Legitimate interests — Security monitoring, fraud prevention, and service improvement, balanced against your privacy rights.
    3. Consent — Marketing emails and optional analytics cookies. You may withdraw consent at any time without affecting prior processing.
    4. Legal obligation — Retaining certain records as required by applicable tax or financial regulations.

  4. Sharing of Information

    1. We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
    2. We share data only with:
      1. Payment processors — To handle subscription billing securely.
      2. Cloud infrastructure providers — Hosting, storage, and content delivery services that process data on our behalf under data processing agreements.
      3. Educators on the Platform — Educators may see aggregated enrolment counts and anonymised engagement statistics for their courses. They do not receive your personal contact details unless you choose to share them.
      4. Law enforcement or regulators — Where we are legally required to disclose information or where disclosure is necessary to protect the safety of users.

  5. Membership Tiers and Content Access

    1. Free (Community) members — May access the community Feed, selected publicly available starter lessons designated by educators, and general Platform announcements.
    2. Paid members — Gain full access to the GR Academy course library, all educator video content, advanced trading strategy modules, the Live section, and eligibility for the Affiliate Programme.
    3. Content access is verified server-side on every request. Attempting to access gated content without the appropriate subscription will result in access denial, and repeated unauthorised attempts may lead to account suspension.

  6. Cookies and Tracking

    1. Essential cookies — Session cookies required for login and secure access to your account. These cannot be disabled without breaking the Platform.
    2. Analytics cookies — With your consent, we use analytics tools to understand how users navigate the Platform. You may decline these via the cookie banner without affecting your access.
    3. We do not use advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.

  7. Data Retention

    1. Account data is retained for as long as your account is active. If you request account deletion, personal data is removed within 30 days, except where retention is required by law (e.g., billing records).
    2. Anonymised, aggregated usage statistics may be retained indefinitely as they cannot be linked back to any individual.

  8. Your Rights

    Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

    1. Access — Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
    2. Rectification — Ask us to correct inaccurate or incomplete data.
    3. Erasure — Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
    4. Portability — Receive your data in a structured, machine-readable format.

  9. Security

    1. All passwords are stored using industry-standard one-way hashing (bcrypt). We enforce HTTPS across the entire Platform.
    2. Access to your account is controlled by your credentials; we will never ask for your password via email or chat.
    3. Despite our measures, no internet transmission is completely secure. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials confidential and for notifying us immediately of any suspected unauthorised access.

  10. Children's Privacy

    The Platform is not directed at individuals under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect personal information from minors. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

  11. Changes to This Policy

    We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the effective date at the top of this page and, for material changes, notify you by email or a prominent notice on the Platform. Continued use of the Platform after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised Policy.
